Four

Community Based Organization working with vulnerable families in the Goderich
community receives on Tuesday 10th September twenty million Leones
loan from the SOS Family Strengthening Programme Goderich in Freetown.
The SOS
Family Strengthening Programme Goderich
has been working with the GAFF CBO in executing its activities, providing for
children who are at risks of losing parental care and Family Based which also cares for children that have lost
parental care.
One of the planned activities of SOS FS programme
was to fund a proposed Social business; it was in this vein that the GAFF CBO
was asked to write a social business proposal. The GAFF came up with a proposal
on the sale of charcoal
which currently has a high turn of
profit in Goderich as
a viable social business that they hoped to run in a sustainable way.
Presenting the cheque on Tuesday 10th
September to the five members CBO at the SOS Children’s Villages National
Office, the National Director, Mr. Olatungie Woode said the loan was in
fulfillment of the business plan proposal submitted to his office. He advised
the CBO members to use the money wisely to have a high income and create an
impact in their community.
In an interview, the Chairperson of GAFF
CBO, Councilor Mohamed Alafia Sesay, stated that “this social business will
help them greatly to raise financial resources to carry out planned activities
like funding the education of twenty five vulnerable children in the community”..
Ayodele Rashid, the secretary for GAFF,
expressed her gratitude during an interview on behalf of the other members and
promised that they will work together as a team to promote the work of their
organization.
Mr. Benoni Williams giving a speech at the end of
the signing of the loan agreement, stated that as the National FS Coordinator,
he encourages all members of the GAFF CBO to ensure that the sales of charcoal
is done aptly with the support of SOS FS Programme especially in the area of
managing revenues, so it can properly be accounted for and the net profit is
efficiently used to expand the business.
This year SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone will
help about 2800 Orphans and Vulnerable children in all operating locations
(Freetown, BO and Makeni) with food, clothing, education, rental support and
income generating activities to help build capacities of Vulnerable Families
within the Goderich community.
